Most women focus on pre-sex rituals. It's just as important, if not more so, to practice self-care after sex play as well.
Let's start with, why is it important for women to have a post-sex hygiene routine?
Good hygiene is essential for a healthy sex life because it can protect against infections and remove unhealthy bacteria and toxins. Having healthful habits for après-sex can go a long way to ensure comfort as well.
What are some of the complications of not having a post-sex hygiene routine?
Not peeing, cleaning, and re-hydrating after sex can lead to UTI’s, unbalanced vaginal pH levels, and overall discomfort.
What are the most important things you should always do after sex with regards to hygiene? And, why are they important?
What everyone hears about peeing after sex is true. This is the first step I always suggest for right after sex. This “clears the pipes” and can help dispel any bacteria and/or toxins. Afterward, I suggest using a clean washcloth, gentle unscented soap, and warm water to wash sticky intimate regions. This essential hygiene step will do a lot to ensure comfort and help protect against infections. Women should always remember to wash from front to back.
For women who really want to thoroughly keep their vaginas in tip-top shape after sex play, I recommend a warm bath with a homemade bath mix. Combining one cup Epsom salt, one cup baking soda and 10 drops of lavender essential oil in a bath can not only help detoxify and restore pH balance for vaginas, the baking soda will also eliminate vaginal odors. I recommend soaking for 20 minutes to get the full benefits from this bath.
After a sexy romp, lovers should always grab a bottle of water. Drinking a minimum of eight ounces of water after sex play can help you hydrate and keep your energy levels up since sexual stimulation can definitely deplete strength. It can also help flush out bacteria from urinary tracts.
Snack After Sex
Another thing to keep in mind is choosing an appropriate snack after sex. For men, chia seeds are known to boost energy and rebuild stamina. For women, green tea is great for increasing energy levels and acts as an antimicrobial agent to fight against bacterial infections in the body.
Underwear Should Not Be An Afterthought
I also suggest choosing breathable underwear. Cotton is the best for allowing genitals to breathe. Being a natural fiber, cotton is also hypoallergenic, highly absorbent, and won’t irritate your most sensitive regions, which are prone to heightened sensitivity and moisture after sex.
